"They'll pay $1 to do something they're not supposed to do."For every dollar the school raises, Scholastic will donate a book to one of three charities.One charity is the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, which collects new unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year to distribute as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community.Another charity is Kids in Distressed Situations. The company will donate up to one million books to the charities."It's a huge benefit to everyone," FitzPatrick said.It's the first time the whole school is taking part in the program.She said some teachers participated last year, but she thought it was a good idea for the whole school to take part.There are about 640 second-, third-, and fourth-graders in the school. The school's goal is $400."So far I've had a good response," FitzPatrick said.
